Frequently asked questions

Answers before you travel to Blackburn

Sixteen questions we are asked most often, answered the way we would answer them on the telephone. Where the honest answer is no, that is what it says.

The four questions that decide everything else

Licence, budget band, intended use and paperwork. Get these straight and the rest of the process takes care of itself.

What licence do I need? — frequently asked question topic at Hamilton Street Motors

What licence do I need?

A CBT or A1 licence covers 125cc machines and automatic scooters. An A2 licence opens the middleweight bracket. A full category A licence is needed for the 650cc and above machines.

What should I budget for? — frequently asked question topic at Hamilton Street Motors

What should I budget for?

Decide the figure first and let the yard match it, rather than falling for a machine and stretching afterwards. Remember insurance, tax, kit and a first service are all separate costs.

What will I use it for? — frequently asked question topic at Hamilton Street Motors

What will I use it for?

A town commute and a summer tour need different machines. Tell us the actual weekly pattern and we will point at categories that suit it rather than at whatever is easiest to sell.

What paperwork comes with it? — frequently asked question topic at Hamilton Street Motors

What paperwork comes with it?

A condition sheet, a signed invoice, the V5C/2 new keeper slip and the online keeper change. Where a private plate is involved we also prepare the retention forms.

Stock and viewing

Questions about what is on the yard

How often does the stock list change?
Stock moves most weeks and the list on this site is refreshed as vehicles arrive, are reserved or are sold. If you are travelling any distance, telephone first so we can confirm whether the vehicle you want is still on the yard.
Can I book an appointment to view a vehicle?
Yes. Appointments are the best way to see a vehicle properly because we can have it out, cold, and ready to start when you arrive. Call +44 7851 260631 or email us and we will agree a slot inside opening hours.
Do you provide a condition report?
Every vehicle carries a written condition sheet that records the checking routine, what was found and what we already know needs attention. You are welcome to read it before you ride or drive away, and to take a copy with you.
Will you take my current vehicle in part exchange?
Usually, yes. Bring the vehicle, the V5C and any service history to the yard. We look at condition, mileage and paperwork, then offer a written figure the same day. Outstanding finance has to be declared and settled before any exchange completes.
Can you handle the registration and keeper change for me?
We complete the V5C/2 new keeper slip at handover and submit the online keeper change in the same week. Where a private plate is involved we prepare the retention paperwork and explain the timescales before you commit.
Payment, paperwork and aftercare

Questions about money and ownership

Is there a warranty on the vehicles you sell?
We do not sell an extended warranty and we do not imply one. What we do provide is a written record of the condition at the point of sale and a clear account of everything we already know is imperfect about the vehicle.
How do I know the vehicle has been checked properly?
Ask to see the condition sheet. It lists the routine we follow and the findings for that particular vehicle, including the faults we are disclosing. If something is not on the sheet, ask us and we will put the answer in writing.
Can you deliver outside Blackburn?
Delivery is available across Lancashire and quoted by distance. Local delivery inside Blackburn with Darwen is straightforward; longer runs are priced individually and agreed in writing before the vehicle leaves the yard.
Are the prices on this site inclusive of tax?
The fees listed on our pricing page are quoted in pounds sterling and are inclusive of VAT where VAT applies to a service. Vehicle prices are confirmed in writing when you view, because they depend on the actual machine in front of you.
Do you offer finance or credit?
No. We are a dealer, not a lender, and we do not arrange credit agreements. If you need finance we will point you at regulated providers, but the decision, the agreement and the liability are entirely between you and that provider.
What paperwork do I need to bring?
Photographic identification, proof of address, your driving licence showing the correct category, and the V5C if you are part exchanging. For a van or car purchase, bring your insurance details so we can confirm cover before you drive away.
Limits and boundaries

Questions where the answer is often no

These are the questions where a dealer can be tempted to over-promise. We would rather be clear now than argue later.

Can I reserve a vehicle while I decide?
Yes. A holding deposit takes the vehicle off the list for seven days. If you go ahead the deposit comes off the balance; if you change your mind the deposit terms we agreed in writing at the time apply.
Do you buy vehicles outright?
We buy stock outright when it suits the yard, and we will give you a straightforward figure rather than a range. If a part exchange against something in stock works out better for you, we will say so.
What happens if something goes wrong after I buy?
Telephone us first. Most queries are about consumables, storage or a noise that turns out to be nothing. Where a fault is genuinely ours to answer for we will deal with it, and the terms of sale on our terms page set out where responsibility sits.
Do you sell to trade or export buyers?
Yes, provided the paperwork is complete and the funds clear before collection. Export documentation is the buyer’s responsibility; we will supply the invoice and the keeper slip the process requires.
How do I contact you?
Telephone +44 7851 260631 during opening hours, email us at any time of day, or use the contact details on our contact page. If we miss your call we will ring back the same day where it is still a reasonable hour.
