We do not lend money — we get the paperwork right

Hamilton Street Motors is a dealer, not a lender. We do not arrange credit agreements, we earn no commission from anybody who does, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we are good at is the statutory paperwork.

Where we stand

A clear statement on finance

This is the part of the trade where customers are most often misled, so we are unambiguous about it.

What we will do

We will tell you the cash figure in writing, explain how a part exchange changes the difference you need to find, and put every fee on the same page.

  • One written figure, no moving target
  • Part-exchange allowance stated separately
  • Fees shown at their published rates
  • Honest answers about what we cannot do

What we will not do

We are not authorised to arrange credit and we do not try to. If you need lending, you will deal with a regulated provider directly.

  • No credit agreement arranged by us
  • No commission from any lender
  • No extended warranty sold alongside a sale
  • No fee that appears only at the desk
If you need finance

How to approach it sensibly

Use a regulated provider — finance and paperwork guidance from Hamilton Street Motors

Use a regulated provider

Banks, building societies and authorised finance brokers are all regulated. Ask for the total amount payable, not the monthly figure.

Compare the total, not the month — finance and paperwork guidance from Hamilton Street Motors

Compare the total, not the month

A low monthly payment over a long term can cost far more than a shorter agreement. Ask for the total cost of credit in pounds.

Come to us last — finance and paperwork guidance from Hamilton Street Motors

Come to us last

Agree your finance first and then negotiate the vehicle. It keeps the two decisions separate, which is how you get a better deal on both.

Paperwork we handle

The statutory work that comes with a sale

None of this is optional and none of it should be left to you to chase afterwards.

Paperwork questions

What people ask about the forms

Can you tax the vehicle for me?
No. Road tax is the registered keeper’s responsibility and must be arranged in your own name. We will tell you the correct VED band for the vehicle and confirm the position in writing.
How long does the keeper change take?
We submit the online change within the same week of the sale. DVLA then issues the updated V5C to you directly, which usually arrives within a couple of weeks.
What if the V5C is missing?
We will not complete a sale on a vehicle with no V5C. A replacement has to be obtained first, and we will explain the timescale before you commit to anything.
Do you handle private plate transfers?
Yes. We prepare the retention paperwork and explain the timescales before completion, at the published rate shown on our pricing page.
Next step

Ask the paperwork questions before you pay a deposit

Bring your licence, your identification and — if you are part exchanging — the V5C. We will tell you exactly what we will complete and what stays with you.
