Trade in what you have against what you want — Hamilton Street Motors, Blackburn
Sell or part exchange

Trade in what you have against what you want

A part exchange means you only find the difference rather than the whole amount. Bring the vehicle, the V5C and whatever history you have kept, and we will offer a written figure the same day.

The simple version

How a part exchange works at this yard

No valuation fee against a purchase, no arrangement fee, and no figure that shrinks once you have shaken hands on it.

  1. Bring the vehicle inRide or drive it to the yard with the V5C, the service history you have and any receipts for recent work. An appointment is better but not essential.
  2. We assess it properlyCondition, recorded mileage, paperwork and the cost of any preparation the vehicle will need before it can be offered on the yard.
  3. A written figure, same dayYou get a number on paper, not a range and not a phone call the next morning. The figure is held against a named vehicle for seven days.
  4. Settle the differenceOnly the difference between the two figures changes hands. Any outstanding finance on your vehicle must be declared and settled first.
  5. Paperwork in one visitNew keeper slip for the vehicle coming in, keeper change for the one going out, and a signed invoice listing every fee.
What moves the figure

Six things we look at, in order

Condition and disclosed faults — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Condition and disclosed faults

Scuffs, corrosion, a worn chain or a soft brake lever all move the number, and we will show you where we think the money goes.

Recorded mileage — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Recorded mileage

Mileage matters less than condition on a used motorcycle, but a consistent service history at the right intervals is worth real money.

Preparation required — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Preparation required

What it will cost us to get the vehicle onto the yard honestly: tyres, pads, battery, a service and any cosmetic work.

Demand for the category — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Demand for the category

A 125cc commuter in spring is easier to move than a big tourer in December, and the figure reflects that honestly.

Paperwork and history — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Paperwork and history

A complete V5C, a stamped book and receipts for recent work all help. A missing V5C has to be resolved before any exchange completes.

Outstanding finance — part exchange factor assessed at Hamilton Street Motors

Outstanding finance

If there is finance on the vehicle it must be declared at the start. We cannot complete an exchange on a vehicle with unsettled finance.

Paperwork to bring

The documents that make it a same-day process

Missing paperwork is the single most common reason an exchange takes a week instead of an afternoon.

Selling outright

Sometimes selling privately is the better answer

We will tell you when that is the case, even though it costs us the vehicle.

Sell privately instead

A private sale usually returns more money, at the cost of your time, tyre-kickers, test-pilot riders and the risk of a payment that does not clear. If your vehicle is clean and the season is right, we will say so.

  • Highest headline figure
  • You handle viewings and test rides
  • You carry the payment risk
  • No part-exchange offset against a purchase

Part exchange with us

Lower headline figure, no viewings, no time-wasters and the whole thing done in one visit with the paperwork handled for both vehicles.

  • Figure agreed the same day
  • No viewings or test pilots
  • Payment risk sits with us, not you
  • Difference only, against a named vehicle
Next step

Bring it in and we will give you a written figure

Ring first if you want to make sure somebody is free to look at it properly, and bring the V5C with you. Valuations against a purchase are charged at the published rate, and you owe nothing if you decide not to go ahead.
