Six service lines, each with a written routine

Everything below is something we actually do in Blackburn, described in the order it happens and with the limits stated rather than glossed over.

Used Motorcycles

Motorcycles make up the larger part of the yard. We keep a spread of engine bands and styles so that a rider on a CBT and a rider with a full category A licence can both find something sensible on the same visit.

  • 125cc naked commuters and automatic scooters for CBT and A1 riders
  • 250cc to 500cc A2-eligible naked, adventure and sport machines
  • 650cc middleweight roadsters and adventure tourers for full A licence holders
  • 900cc and above sports tourers for long-distance and two-up use
  • Retro and classic-styled roadsters with simple, serviceable electronics
  • Supermoto and street singles for riders who prefer light and sharp
  • Every machine inspected, ridden and recorded before it is listed
  • Mileage, year band and condition grade shown on the viewing sheet

We do not dress up a tired machine as a bargain. If a motorcycle needs a chain, a set of pads or a battery before the season, that appears on the condition sheet and it is priced into the figure rather than discovered by you three weeks later.

Light Motor Vehicles — Hamilton Street Motors, Blackburn

Light Motor Vehicles

On four wheels we concentrate on the small end of the market: city cars, compact petrol hatchbacks and light commercial vans. These are the vehicles that cost the least to run and the least to insure, which is exactly what most of our four-wheel customers need.

  • Three and five door compact hatchbacks with low CO2 tax bands
  • City cars sized for narrow terraced streets and tight parking bays
  • Compact panel vans for trades and delivery work on a category B licence
  • Car-derived vans that fit a domestic driveway and a standard parking bay
  • Bodywork, underside and tyre condition photographed on arrival
  • Battery, fluid and brake condition checked before handover
  • Running-cost guidance in real figures for tax, insurance and fuel
  • Collection or delivery arranged around your working week

Small commercial vehicles are often bought in a hurry and regretted slowly. We will talk you through payload, tax band and the honest difference between a car-derived van and a proper light commercial before you commit to either.

Pre-Sale Inspection — Hamilton Street Motors, Blackburn

Service 03

Pre-Sale Inspection

The inspection routine is the backbone of the business. It is not a certificate and we do not sell it as one. It is a recorded set of checks with the findings written down for the individual vehicle you are looking at.

  • Steering head, forks, frame and wheel bearings
  • Engine from a genuine cold start, plus charging and starting circuit
  • Brake discs, pads, lines, fluid level and lever feel
  • Tyre tread depth, pressures, sidewalls and wheel balance
  • Lights, indicators, horn, switches and instrument cluster
  • Chain, sprockets or belt condition and adjustment
  • Suspension action front and rear, and static sag check
  • Findings recorded in plain English on the vehicle condition sheet

Where the routine finds something we cannot fix economically, the vehicle is either priced down with the fault disclosed or it does not go on the yard at all. Both outcomes are written on the sheet so you can see which one applied.

Part Exchange & Upgrade — Hamilton Street Motors, Blackburn

Service 04

Part Exchange and Upgrade

A part exchange is the simplest way to move from the vehicle you have to the one you actually want, because you only find the difference rather than the whole amount.

  • Bring the vehicle, the V5C and any service history you have kept
  • Condition, mileage and paperwork assessed on the day you visit
  • A written figure offered the same day, not a range
  • The figure held against a named vehicle for seven days
  • Outstanding finance must be declared and settled before completion
  • No valuation fee and no arrangement fee on a purchase
  • Trade-in accepted against motorcycles, cars and light vans alike
  • Paperwork for the outgoing vehicle completed in the same visit

We will tell you when selling privately would put more money in your pocket. That is not good for us in the short term and it is the reason people come back, so we do it anyway.

Finance and Paperwork Support

To be unambiguous: we are a dealer, not a lender. We do not arrange credit agreements and we earn nothing from anybody who does. What we do is get the statutory paperwork right so that you are not chasing it for weeks afterwards.

  • V5C/2 new keeper slip completed at the point of handover
  • Online keeper change submitted within the same week
  • Private plate retention and transfer paperwork prepared
  • Insurance quotation support through independent regulated brokers
  • VED band and first-registration tax guidance for the specific vehicle
  • Written invoice itemising the vehicle and every service fee
  • Export paperwork guidance for trade and overseas buyers
  • Honest answers about what we cannot do, in writing if you ask

If you need credit, we will point you towards regulated providers and then step out of the conversation. The agreement, the interest and the liability belong to you and that provider, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

Aftercare & Support — Hamilton Street Motors, Blackburn

Service 06

Aftercare and Support

The useful part of a dealer relationship starts after the sale. We answer questions about the vehicle you have bought, we explain what a service interval really means in miles, and we do not invent a warranty to make the conversation easier.

  • Telephone support on +44 7851 260631 during opening hours
  • Email support at any hour, answered the next working day
  • Service intervals explained in real mileage rather than months
  • Consumable advice on tyres, chains, pads and batteries
  • Second-hand parts sourced where a new part is not sensible
  • Introductions to local workshops and specialists we actually use
  • Winter storage and battery-care guidance for seasonal riders
  • No extended warranty is sold, implied or administered by us

What we cannot do is pretend a used vehicle will never need money spent on it. What we can do is tell you what to expect, in what order, and roughly what it will cost, so that nothing arrives as a surprise.

How the six fit together

The order we usually work in

  1. Choose the categoryMotorcycle or light vehicle, licence category and budget band. We narrow the yard down to two or three realistic options.
  2. Inspection and disclosureThe vehicle goes through the checking routine and the findings are written onto its condition sheet.
  3. View, ride and questionYou see the vehicle cold, read the sheet, and ask anything you like about what is on it before money is discussed.
  4. Agree the figureVehicle figure, part-exchange allowance if any, and every service fee on one written page.
  5. Handover and aftercareKeeper change submitted, invoice signed, and the phone number you ring if anything is unclear afterwards.
What is never included

The things we deliberately do not sell

Knowing where a dealer stops is as useful as knowing what they offer.

Credit and finance agreements

We are a dealer, not a lender. We do not arrange credit agreements and we earn no commission if somebody else arranges one for you.

  • No lender introductions for reward
  • No commission of any kind
  • Regulated providers only, and you deal with them direct
  • Nothing appears on your agreement that we benefit from

Extended warranties and guarantees

We do not sell extended warranties and we do not imply them. A used vehicle carries the condition we wrote down at the point of sale, and that is the whole of what we commit to.

  • No warranty product sold at the desk
  • No period of cover implied in conversation
  • Condition disclosed in writing instead
  • Your statutory rights are unaffected
Next step

Ask us a question before you travel

A five-minute telephone call saves most wasted journeys. Tell us the licence category, the budget band and what the vehicle is for, and we will tell you straight away whether the yard can help.
